Guidelines for Consulting Actuaries

The CCA developed the following actuarial consulting guidelines and quick reference guides to help consulting actuaries in their daily practice:

Guide for the Consulting Actuary

These are a pair of quick reference guides highlighting the Precepts of the Code of Professional Conduct and the Actuarial Standards of Practice.

Consulting Actuary Reminders

The CCA Committee on Professionalism reminds consulting actuaries on three topics: record retention requirements, cooperation between actuaries and actuarial advice disclosure language.

Guidelines for Engagement Letters

A well-crafted engagement letter can be a powerful tool. It can help define the scope of the assignment and the nature of the relationship between the parties, and specify what services will be provided by the actuary to the client and the amount the client will pay for such services. The following proposed Actuarial Consulting Guideline on the topic of Engagement Letters has been prepared by the Professionalism Committee of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries to assist actuaries, consultants and /or actuarial consulting firms in maintaining high levels of professionalism in their daily practice.

Guidelines for Peer Review

There are many tools available to consulting actuaries to help them test, maintain or even improve the quality of their work. Some tools tend to focus on maintaining and improving the practitioner's general skills and knowledge (e.g., formal and informal training programs, attendance at professional meetings, reading of professional literature, participation in continuing education certification programs, etc.). This "actuarial consulting guideline" focuses on one testing tool that some actuaries find useful -- peer review. This "Actuarial Consulting Guideline" on the topic of Peer Review has been prepared by the Committee on Professionalism of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries to assist actuaries, consultants and actuarial consulting firms in maintaining high levels of quality and professionalism in their daily practice.
